6 Beginner Lessons - The New Golfer Starter Series
From holding a club to playing your first round.

Don’t worry about perfect technique yet.

Your first goal is simply to hold the club comfortably and securely enough to make a swing.

You don’t need the perfect golf stance.

Start with your feet about shoulder-width apart, bend slightly from your hips and let your arms hang naturally. That’s enough to start hitting balls.

Don’t try to hit the ball as far as possible.

Start with a small swing and try to make contact. Your first swings do not need to look like the golfers you see on TV. Turn back a little, swing through the ball and finish balanced.

Visit a Driving Range

You do not need to be good enough before going to the driving range. The driving range is where you go to learn.

A driving range is simply a place where golfers practice hitting golf balls.

Instead of playing an entire golf hole, you stand in your own hitting area — usually called a bay — and hit balls out into a large open field.

How to Putt For Beginners

Playing Your First Round of Golf

Putting is one of the simplest parts of golf to start learning.

You don't need a big swing and you don't need to hit the ball a long way.

The basic goal is simply:

Start the ball in the right direction and roll it the right distance.

In this lesson, we'll show you a simple putting setup and stroke that you can use the first time you step onto a putting green.

For your first round of golf, look for a course that welcomes beginners.

A shorter public/municipal course, 9-hole course or par-3 course can be a great place to start.

You don't need to begin on a difficult championship golf course.

Your goal for your first round is simple:

Get comfortable being on a golf course and enjoy playing.
